Solve the Puzzles of Ancient Egypt

Cleopatra: Riddle of the Tomb (**** out of four) is a mystery adventure game set in Ancient Egypt. You play the part of a young apprentice astrologer who is charged by Cleopatra to find the missing chief astrologer and his daughter and the secret they have found. Overshadowing the disappearance is the struggle between Cleopatra and her brother for the throne of Egypt. Your search takes you to Ancient Egypt’s historical/mythical sites, such as the Lighthouse and the Library at Alexandria.

As you start the game, you must choose an astrological sign to play under. Different signs influence how the game unfolds for you. Cleopatra: Riddle of the Tomb is similar in game play to other adventure type games: you click and scroll your way through your environment, picking up any item not bolted down. These items then become useful later to uncover clues, unlock doors, gain access to codes and such until you’re successful (or not) in your mission(s). In this game, however, we thought there was an over-abundance of bits and pieces to look after to progress through the game. For example, to gain access to vital information and tools that are locked in the chief astrologer’s observatory, you have to unlock the door. This is done by getting a statue of Eros to fire an arrow at the unlocking mechanism, but his arrow is missing, so you must find it--only to find it’s broken, so you find some tar to stick it back together, put it on the statue, position the arrow properly and fire to open the door. But adventure gamers love it, and you may too.

Those with patience and who love exploration will find much to keep them busy, but the best part is the degree of historical/mythical detail interwoven in the story. The detail of the interactive scenes is so pleasing to see and remarkable in its historical content that we occasionally found ourselves wishing the puzzle part would go away so we could enjoy the story and scenery. Cleopatra: Riddle of the Tomb offers 5.1 surround sound if your computer supports it. The music and sound effects are good, but the voice acting seems a bit contemporary for an ancient story.

Extra Computer Security

Norton 360 v2.0 (***) is a comprehensive and effective security suite designed to keep your computing safe and secure and your computer humming along efficiently.

All-In-One encompasses four major areas: PC Security, Online Transaction Security, Backup (both local and online), and PC Tuneup. The interface displays the status of each area by using a simple green, yellow or red checkmark, and it can be set to automatically resolve common problems without any user intervention.

PC Security

Integrated anti-virus, anti-spyware and malware detection and remediation. The program scans your computer, incoming and outgoing files and e-mails for these types of threats and automatically and safely removes or quarantines them, depending on the type of threat.

Two-way firewall. This software firewall protects against hacker attacks from the Internet and will block virus, worms, malware, spyware and hackers from stealing sensitive information, all while allowing data from trusted applications through. The firewall automatically configures itself by setting up rules based on your program usage and can work in conjunction with a hardware firewall to add protection by blocking outgoing information to hacker sites.

On-line Transaction Security

Identifies and blocks fraudulent web sites attempting to steal your personal information. This is done by comparing the site with a "black list" developed and continually updated by Symantec and by using behavioral techniques to identify activity from sites that seek your information. Norton 360 also checks the authenticity of trusted online brands, such as e-commerce sites or financial institutions, and displays a "Verified Site" banner for assurance.

Backup and Restore

Automatically store and retrieve data, photos or music files to local resources such as CD/DVD drives, internal or external hard drives or USBs, or on-line sites. Included with the program is 2GB of free on-line encrypted storage at Symantec’s secure site. New or changed files are automatically detected, and incremental backups are done on a scheduled basis or during idle times, and files already backed up are marked as such.

PC Tuneup

Identifies and removes clutter. This includes removal of Windows and Internet temporary files and Internet history files, and also includes disk defragmentation. These operations help your computer run faster and more efficiently.

Add-Ons

At no additional charge, you can download Norton’s AntiSpam and Parental Control plugin modules. Parental Control allows you to create separate accounts for each Internet user and gives you the ability to control sites each user visits--an extremely important feature when children use your computer.

AntiSpam creates an antispam mailbox in your e-mail program and, using predefined lists and rules, places suspect spam into that mailbox while allowing the remaining to go into your inbox. You will need to check the antispam mail box to make sure a wanted message wasn’t put there. You can train Norton Antispam as to what is and is not spam.

With all the automated scanning, fixing and backing up going on in the background, Norton 360 understandably will slow down your computer and cause occasional conflicts that may lock up your computer. But, in addition to all the security and functional operations, the program can handle common problems and guides you in resolving them. Live chat, e-mail and phone support are also available.

Included with the purchase of the program is a licence for use on up to three PCs in the same household and a one-year subscription for free updates for the programs, virus definitions and more.
